It was earmarked for redevelopment as a restaurant in 1991 but was brought back as a theater in 1994 following the devastating fire at the National Theatre. The Chaktomuk Conference Hall in Phnom Penh was completely refurbished in 2000 with the mission of providing international-standard facilities for business conferences. It is still used a theater venue for special and official programs organized directly by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.

The main use of the Chaktomuk Conference Hall at Phnom Penh at present is for conferences, lectures and occasional performing arts activities. The fabulous seating arrangement consist a total of 592 seats with retractable writing pallets. The hall is air-conditioned and there is a quick change area at the backstage accommodating 20 persons in all.
